As Mark Spears points out in this article, NBA players were bailing left and right on the Olympics in 2004. Now, though, elite players are trying their best to get on the team.  The U.S. has no assurances in the Olympics anymore - and not only are they playing the host team in the opener, but playing them in a hugely emotional environment after the recent earthquake - but give Jerry Colangelo and Mike Kryzewski credit for this, no matter what happens in the games: the culture of the U.S. team has done a 180.
