Barry Jacobs On the ACC & Overtime!

There's no question expansion has skewed a number of records. Among those is the incidence of overtime contests. It's a simple equation - the more teams playing under the ACC banner, the more likelihood certain anomalies will occur. The recent expansion to 12 members increased the number of league games by a third.

Last year around this time, ACC teams had been involved in seven overtime contests. By season's end, the number had nearly doubled. Already in 2007-08 there have been 14 overtime games, more than last season's total.

Every team in the conference already has engaged in a contest that required at least one extra period.
