Teams making at least three-quarters of their free throws led the league in 25 of the ACC's first 54 years of existence. Five of those squads competed in the past six years, contradicting the notion that shooting is a lost art.
The most efficient free throwers in league history were the 2004 N.C. State Wolfpack, who converted foul shots at a .799 clip. But that record may be in jeopardy, and from an unexpected source.
Last season Florida State set a school record with a .758 conversion rate at the line. This year, the second in which shooting coach Andy Enfield is on staff as an assistant, FSU is hitting free throws at a .794 clip through 19 games. That matches IUPUI for the best in Division I basketball.
