Barry Jacobs On ACC-Opening Losing Streaks

Georgia Tech, Maryland, and Virginia Tech are 0-1 this season in ACC competition. Each would have to lose at least five more consecutive contests to match its worst league start in recent memory. To be fair, Virginia Tech's case the track record covers a mere three full seasons.

Among teams added to the conference since 1992, only Florida State won its debut contest in ACC play, a triumph at the Smith Center in December 1991.

Four of nine teams in the league since the '92 season have won more ACC openers than they lost - Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and Wake Forest. The Yellow Jackets already lost their opener to FSU, while Wake bested Virginia Tech.
