Much like Herb Sendek at N.C. State, Tommy Amaker was brought in to clean up Michigan. And much like Sendek, he won games and had a clean program, but it wasn't enough, as Michigan dumped Amaker on Saturday. Tom Izzo had some harsh words for Michigan, pointing out that Amaker did win 20 games and was at a disadvantage with poor facilities and a smaller budget than many of his Big Ten rivals. Vitale echoes many of his criticisms.
It's hard to understand in some ways. When you meet Tommy Amaker, you understand immediately that this guy is highly intelligent and capable. He's too smart and to gifted to fail. If not Michigan, then he'll pop up somewhere.
