This is truly sad: UNC grad Marion Jones, the one-time wunderkid of women's track and field, has admitted to doping, and may well go to jail. She'll also probably lose her Olympic medals.
There's always the Duke-UNC thing, and we enjoy that as much as the next obsessive. But we were awed by Jones, and we pulled for her and we took great satisfaction in her successes.
Remember when Carl Lewis made a stink about Ben Johnson after losing to him in the '88 Olympics? He complained about doping, and the American attitude was more or less, well that's what they do, not us.
Sadly, we can no longer maintain that illusion.
