Jay Bilas has popped up a couple of times recently, notably for his letter urging the resignations of Duke President Richard Brodhead and the chair of the board of trustees, Robert Steel, but then starting off a column in the new ACC Handbook with a reference to Erica Jong (try explaining that to Dick Vitale), not exactly what you would expect but a perfect segue, and now with some very kind words for Dayton, their fans, and their arena. Dayton has a significant history, including a tremendous NCAA run in 1967, when they ran into the invincible UCLA juggernaut led by Lew Alcindor, who would change his name in a few years to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. They lost by 15 to UCLA, but they might have been about equal to the Bruins if they hadn't had Alcindor.
