ACC Roundup

Last night in the ACC was great. It was an amazing night for the
conference. Start with Virginia's astounding 108-87 win over Gonzaga, where the
'Hoos ran up and sustained a 30+ point lead. Keep in mind that this is a team which
defeated UNC and gave Duke a tremendous game in New York recently. Sean Singletary
started the game with three straight threes and ended up with 37.

In Tallahassee, Clemson did what they so often have failed to do over the years, namely
make a clutch play to win. You can usually rely on the Tigers to blow a game at the
end, but not this time: Cliff Hammonds drove the floor in the closing seconds and hit a
layup to preserve their undefeated season. And he got to do it, basically, in
front of hometown fans (his family lives about an hour from FSU).

UNC defeated Penn, but the Quakers took an early 10 point lead before the Heels
woke up and responded. Didn't take long after that. UNC pulled away rather
quickly and ran away with the game. In good news for Chapel Hill, Bobby Frasor
is back and so is Quentin Thomas.

For what it's worth, ESPN's Bracketology is underway and has seven ACC teams in the field:
UNC, Duke, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Florida State.
UNC is a 1, Duke a 2, Clemson and Maryland at 5's, FSU at 7, and Virginia Tech as
an 11.

Given Virginia's win over Arizona and their imposing win over Gonzaga, even though
it's not a vintage Gonzaga team, they could make an argument as well. And B.C.
usually manages to do well by the end of the year, whatever conference they're in at the
time.
