Former Wake coach Dave
Odom has received a two-year extension at South Carolina. He gets some
of the same complaints there that he got at Wake - that his program isn't
competing at the highest level, maybe that he's too conservative and his style
isn't exciting enough. On the other hand, he's a solid coach and 110-74
may not be a scintillating record, but it's respectable. And South
Carolina knows what it's like to not be respectable: they haven't won an NCAA
game since 1973 - two years after Frank McGuire pushed a disastrous
decision to leave the ACC - and have only made the field rarely.
