The folks at the Chronicle, having excellent sources within walking distance, have looked further into allegations that Sgt. Mark Gottlieb has a problem with Duke students. Students are alleging such things as being handcuffed while half asleep, being dragged down stairs, warrantless searches, lying in court, threatening to have international students deported, and being an all around schmuck.
Given what Durham has accepted lately as reasonable grounds for investigation, and given the number of students who say these things, it's time for a) Duke to demand an explanation from the Durham police department for how students are being treated, and b) time for the city of Durham to - finally - start asking questions about how things are being done. It's called the Bull City, but not, we'd hope, because of the police department and the district attorney's office.
