Gordon Monson, of the Salt Lake City paper,
has a column up on the national team with the following conclusion: "But
at least American basketball fans can feel whole again about the team that
stands in for them at the championships, a team that wants to stand in
for them, a group emerging from bleak years when its predecessors seemed not
just ill-suited for the task at hand, but unable or unwilling to really
care."
