This link gives a few details on Team USA training in Cameron
for the upcoming Women's World Championship. The team arrived recently
(with the exception of Katie Smith, who is playing for the WNBA title) and
started practice today. There will be an open practice Wednesday at 6:30
at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, Thursday at 6pm in Carmichael, and Sunday
the 3rd at 5pm in Cameron. Team USA will play Australia (jam-pack loaded
with talent, including former WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson) in Cameron on the
7th at 7pm. Also of note is that another former MVP, Yolanda Griffith,
has decided to withdraw from the team. She's also currently playing for a
WNBA title. Candace Parker had already been given the 12th spot on the
team, but this will open up another slot (possibly for Detroit Shock
rebounding machine Cheryl Ford?). Team USA has decided to invite another
couple of young players to train in Durham: top rookie Cappie
Pondexter and center Michelle Snow. I'll have a more extensive preview of
what to expect from Team USA a bit later on.
