In ACC Friday night action, Wake crumbled against South Florida, 75-67, and
after a poor start, Florida State trounced Providence by 30, 92-62.
Wake Forest moves down towards Miami in the overall standings at 7-5. The
Deacs had cut the Bulls lead down to three with 37.7 seconds left, but let the
Bulls off the hook.

On the bright side, Kyle Visser had 27 points and 14 boards, and Ishmael
Smith had 12 points and 11 assists.
Still. Losing to USF is weak.
Florida State had a rocky start, and with Al Thornton in foul trouble, they
struggled. But they almost pitched a shutout in the second half, holding
PC to 15 for 20 from the floor, which is pretty impressive.
Saturday's games are mostly tuneups, with State hosting UNC-W, not as sharp
as they have been in recent years. You can say the same for Marshall, as
the Thundering Herd takes on Virginia Tech, coming in with a 3-8 record.
Georgia Tech gets St. Francis, and there's no particular reason they should
be challenged.
Miami plays Nebraska, which should be interesting. Doc Sadler is
coaching there now. You may remember him from his time at UTEP, where he
turned in a solid performance, winning 27 games in his first year and 21 in his
second.
Nebraska is 8-3, but against an extremely weak schedule. They lost to
Rutgers, most recently destroyed by UNC, and Oregon. They also lost to
Hawaii.
But their wins are over teams like NebOmaha, Lubbock, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and
so on. It's not very impressive.
Really the most interesting game on Saturday is probably State and
Wilmington, because the other schools in the UNC system love to get a whack at
the ACC schools.
On the other hand, Virginia Tech and Marshall are somewhat similar schools in
that they are both in the mountains and have rabid fan bases. So it should
be reasonably intense, particularly since it's at Marshall, where a visiting ACC
team will bring out a big crowd.
But when you get down to it, all four games are likely just dogs.
Duke fans had some fun with former UNC star Antawn Jamison, whose name is not
pronounced the way you would expect. He apparently heard about it all his
life, and when his son was born,
he switched the A and the W back.
