Our new pal Jen suffered Sarcoma but kicked it in the toosh! But Sarcoma is on her hit list, and she's a pretty determined woman. She's looking for some help in hitting back.
Dear Duke Family,
We have something that will raise your spirits and your heart rate on January 28th! Before Duke Crushes Boston College at 5:30 PM, join Duke '93 Alumni, Jen Goodman, in her effort to raise much-neeeded funds for cancer research.
Jen was diagnosed with a nasty form of cancer, Sarcoma, in December of 2004 at the age of 34. She was treated at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in NYC, where she had two surgeries and underwent six rounds of chemotherapy. Thankfully, she is in remission, but knows the cancer can return.
In an effort to raise the necessary funds for cancer research, , Jen in a fashion in line with her personality has created the First Annual Spin4Survival.
All during Jen's treatments, she maintained an extraordinary commitment to fitness, and specifically spinning. (She even became certified as a cycling instructor!) She has teamed up with Equinox, Columbus Circle, to host a 5-hour adventure ride with 5 of the most popular instructors. Folks can sign up as a team or do the whole ride by themselves (crazy!)
How can you Help? (visit www.Spin4Survival.org for all the details, but below are a few ways)
1) PARTICIPATE: You can create a new team or join an existing one.
2)
And/Or
2) DONATE: If you live far away or "don't do spinning," then you can still help by raising money. Visit the website and become a fundraiser. You can contribute to a Team. Jen's team is called The Livestrong Linns, or you can contribute to the Dukeys for Jen Team. All information is on www.Spin4Survival.org.
And/Or
3) GET THE WORD OUT: This is the most important and simplest way to help. Send a personal email to people you know telling them a bit about Jen and attach the website link ( www.spin4survival.org ) so that they can support you as a participant and/or donate to a great cause.
And/Or
4) VOLUNTEER: Help find raffle prizes for sponsorship levels, getting food sponsors and managing registration on the day of the event. I am able to get tickets to The Daily Show, for example, which will become a raffle prize.
