ACC Roundup

In ACC news, the big story of the day is that Georgia Tech was upset by
Vanderbilt. Paul Hewitt said the other day that he was concerned about his
team's desire to play defense. That's a pretty fundamental flaw.
Vandy is a well-coached team, but still. You'd think Tech could have
managed.

Miami beat Lehigh - big whoop. But Jack McClinton scored 21 and has hit
at least 20 in the last six games. Not too shabby for a transfer.

In Raleigh, State returned to Reynolds, the home they never should have left,
for the Legacy Game. Look, if you're going to celebrate the place, why not
bring in someone serious? Savannah State is kind of pitiful, the Sendekian
scheduling philosophy at its worst. After a sluggish first half, State
blew them away.

In Chapel Hill, UNC had High Point in for a ritual dismantling, but no one
told Arizona Reid, who scored 26 and then said he
had a bigger heart than UNC's kids
. Heart is responsible for a lot.
Last year, we told you that UConn wasn't going anywhere. Why? Because they
had no heart.

So what about UNC? It may be a bit
harsh. No one doubts Tyler Hansbrough at this point. Wes Miller gets
immense respect, although his talent is limited, and Bobby Frasor seems to have
a lot of guts. We'd probably add Reyshawn Terry to the list, just because he's
never given up and it's paid off for him.

The jury is out on the rest, who'll have to
prove it, and judging by the defense so far, they have a ways to go.

And in terms of the minutes issue, Quentin
Thomas, who has a stress fracture, didn't play, and Mike Copeland only got a
minute in a blowout, the same as the walkons. So with William Graves
redshirting, it's pretty clear who the bottom three on the roster are going to
be. Problem solved!

In Sunday action, Appalachian State visits
Virginia Tech, FSU gets Southeastern Louisiana, and Maryland and B.C. tangle on
the big Sunday night Fox game.
