It's hard to learn a lot from exhibition games, but in Raleigh and
Winston-Salem, there is bound to be concern the results of Tuesday night's
games. State beat St. Augustine's, but only by 11, 87-76. But that
was much better than Wake's performance. Duke drilled N.C. Central the
other night, as you may recall. Not the case for the Deacs, as Wake
won 68-60. But Central was within three with less than two minutes to
go.
Maryland bucked the trend, defeating Hampton 102-75, after a couple of ugly
exhibition wins.
In a bit of ACC alum news, former UNC star Brendan
Haywood got into a locker room fight with teammate Etan Thomas.
For the second time this season, a Miami football player was shot. The
player shot previously survived; this
time murder was the result as Bryan Pata died of his wounds.
Georgia Tech freshman Zach Peacock, 6-7,
has won the starting center spot, beating out 6-10 incumbent Ra'Sean
Dickey. He'll join Javaris Crittendon and Thaddeus Young as rookie
starters for the Yellow Jackets.
