In other ACC action Tuesday night, State got past Valparaiso, 78-64, Clemson
survived Mississippi State, 69-66, Wake knocked off Vandy, 88-78, and Georgia
Tech made quite a statement in beating Memphis, 92-85.

Tech was down 16 to Memphis and rallied behind Ra'Sean Dickey and some
excellent defense. At one point, they held Memphis to one basket in an
eight minute stretch.
For Thaddeus Young, who no doubt knows most of the guys from his hometown
school, the victory must have been very sweet.
Gavin Grant is off to a super start for N.C. State, and is rapidly becoming a
leader and putting aside his tendency to look at his coach before doing
anything. This really harmed him last year; this year, he is just playing.
Sidney Lowe has to get some credit for that.
State may have the thinnest bench of any ACC team in memory, and that will
catch up to them, but they are doing well with what they have.
So far so good for Wake Forest, as Ishmael Smith has taken over at point
guard and seems to be adapting well. Jamie Skeen had a nice game against
Vandy too, with 16 points and 10 boards.
Clemson moved to 6-0 with a tight win over Miss. State. It was a
tighter game than maybe it had to be, but they're winning the games they should
win, which will help their tournament prospects.
At least the ACC isn't losing badly. Duke did lose, to a ranked team,
but Marquette stablemates Cincinnati and Rutgers lost to Wofford and Rutgers
lost to 0-3 Jackson State. Wofford is a better team than a lot of people
think - Clemson should take note, with Wofford coming up - but beating
Cincinnati is still impressive.
