In Monday night ACC action, Virginia Tech took out JMU, 77-58, Virginia lost
to Western Kentucky, 78-68, and Miami survived Sacred Heart, 63-57. The
only surprise to us is how close the Miami game was. Losing to Sacred
Heart wouldn't be quite as bad as Clemson's loss to Elon, but it wouldn't have
been far behind. And Sacred Heart was not that far away from winning
either.
For Virginia Tech, Coleman Collins continues to impress, as he scored 32
against Madison. And Virginia is likely to struggle all season, so
struggling against the Hilltoppers is no great shock.

Tomorrow night features a couple of intriguing games for ACC
teams. UNCG at N.C. State shouldn't be much, and ECU at Wake should
be no major deal, although Wake
will face former teammate Jeremy Ingram, who transferred to ECU. And
certainly we'd expect B.C. to beat UMass. But Vanderbilt at Georgia Tech should
be interesting, and Davidson could give UNC a pretty good game too.
Vandy is 9-1, although the competition has not been great. But they are
extremely well coached and no doubt have watched the Air Force tape. It
sounds funny, but a win over Vandy would be a good one for Tech.
And the UNC game is definitely interesting. The Heels have been very
good at times, but youth is youth, and they'll have some tough games this
year. Davidson should count it as a near-miracle that Bob McKillop has
stayed long enough to have built the second greatest era in Davidson
basketball. Nothing is going to touch what Lefty Driesell did there, but
McKillop has done a remarkable job. Davidson always is tough, and in
recent years they have given teams like Kansas and Stanford fits, and from time
to time, they give Duke a pretty good run too.
It should be a fun game.
