Dukeâs defeat at the quick hands of Georgetown ended its quest not only for the best season start in school history, but for a near-certain correlation with Final Four participation.
Fourteen times in ACC history, teams won at least 20 games in a row. Of those 14 squads, 11 got at least as far as the Final Four. The exceptions were N.C. State in 1955 (a season ended by NCAA probation) and 1956, UNC in 1984, and UNC in 1986.
Six such streaks include national championship seasons â UNC in 1957, N.C. State in 1974 (the â73 Wolfpack had an undefeated record, but was on probation and couldnât appear in the NCAAs or NIT), Duke in 1992, Duke in 1991, and Duke in 2001.
