We've been tracking Gary Milhous Williams' various efforts at self-validation since he won the national title.
First, the fact of the win was worked in as often as possible into conversation. Then when Roy Williams came back to UNC, he became the Williams-who-has-won-a-national-championship. After that sort of faded, it became Maryland, the-ACC-team-with-the-longest-NCAA-streak. Now that that's over, what's the latest? Glad you asked:
"Here's the thing: Nobody can ever take it away from you once you win a championship."
Of course, that's true for finishing in the final four of the NIT as well!
