Here's more from the Richmond paper on Dave
Leitao the recruiter.
Incidentally, one of the reasons he was interested in moving was that he
didn't want to face his mentor, Jim Calhoun, twice a year or more as DePaul
moves to the Big East.
Gregg Doyel, who recently wrote an article ripping Virginia's search as a
joke, is backtracking now, saying that you (he) can question the search, but you
(he) can't argue with the results.
He also more or less guarantees that when Jim Calhoun retires at UConn that
Leitao will immediately return to UConn to take over.
Maybe, maybe not. He may not want to take over from a legend.
Duke will face the same issue at some point, when Mike Krzyzewski retires.
Mike Brey has already said he thinks it would be an impossible act to follow,
and we have kind of gone to the school of thought that hiring from within the
family may not be the best idea in the long run. Obviously if you have a
Roy Williams around, it's a reasonable move, but no one in K's coaching tree has
hit that level yet.
Leitao could be a Roy Williams level coach and still might decide to make his
mark at Virginia rather than UConn.
