On the first of each month, we do end-of-month log file processing. In March, we had over 41,000,000 hits on the DBR server, and the log file processing took over 13 hours. Many of you may have noticed a slowing of the server, or an inability to reach pages, for that, we apologize.
This is one of the driving causes for our decision to expand the site. Among other plans will be to remove the log file processing from the main server, and to handle that on an auxillary machine. We do not yet have an estimate on how long it will take to accomplish this, but more than anyone, we recognize it is essential for the future of the site.
