As Stan Lee might say, "This is the Big One!" The rematch between #4 Duke and #5 UNC is one of the most
eagerly-anticpated regular season games in ACC history. While Duke has
tied for at least a share of the regular season title, a win over the
Heels would clinch it outright. On the other hand, a win by UNC would
give them the top seed in the ACC tournament. Duke hasn't been swept by
the Heels since 1997, when Marion Jones & Tracy Reid still prowled the
court. Considering the way that the Heels outworked Duke in the first
game (at least for the first 35 minutes or so), the Devils are eager for a
rematch. Some notable streaks are on the line, including Duke's long ACC
home winning streak (33 games) and a potential first--an undefeated home
record. Of course, winning the title outright would make it five in a row
and seven out of eight. The fact that a team that lost its greatest
player ever, two starters and two top reserves, and its starting point
guard this year could go 26-2 and be in position to win another conference
title is a testament to Coach G's ability and the resilience of her
players. Check out some of Coach G's comments about the game. The contest will be at 8:00pm on
Sunday night and will be the national Fox game. Some tickets are still
left, but call now to get them--the game will likely sell out.
If the Duke-UNC matchup wasn't enough, a certain Ernest Evans, alias
Chubby Checker, will be singing the national anthem. As everyone knows, he's Mistie Williams'
father and a frequent attendee at her games.
