In ACC action Saturday, UNC (naturally) defeated Clemson in
Chapel Hill, Virginia Tech beat Miami in Blacksburg, and Maryland won in double
OT in Charlottesville.

Frank Haith made the game in
spite of an appendectomy just the other day, which is pretty
remarkable. Unfortunately for Haith, his team went down.
In Charlottesville, Maryland
was playing for the tournament, but Pete Gillen was playing for his job.
It was a tight game, needless to say, but when John Gilchrist hit a three with
1:19 left.
UVa only hit 12 of 27 free throws, and Elton Brown missed 10
of those.
No matter what happens, Virginia has improved rather
dramatically down the stretch. Will it save Gillen's job? Probably
not. But it must be gratifying.
Georgia Tech has gone from a
Final Four team to a bubble team in no time, and that has to be frustrating
for Paul Hewitt. Last year, and at the beginning of this year, he seemed
to be in charge of a juggernaut. Now, though, he's just trying to squeak
in.
So Sunday's game at FSU is a really big game. That puts
them back up to .500 in the conference.
