Here are a couple of great gift ideas for the Duke fan in your life (or, heck, even for yourself). One comes from the Emily Krzyzewski Family Life Center and the other from our friends at Replay Photos.
Emily Krzyzewski Family Life Center
As we approach the holiday season of giving, there is a wonderful opportunity to honor someone you love, and to help children reach their highest potential at the same time. The Emily Krzyzewski Family LIFE Center, which will be opening in February of 2006, will have an area called the Walk of Dreams, which honors the memory of David Borman, the brother of former Duke basketball player Andy Borman.
The Walk of Dreams will be comprised of bricks purchased by friends of the Center in honor of, or in memory of, loved ones. The bricks will be inscribed so that all who see them will know the inspiration that those people gave to others. Many people have purchased bricks already, and they make a beautiful Christmas or Hanukkah gift. The funds raised will enable the Center to help children and their families help themselves in striving to create a better future for our community.
The bricks are $100 and the donation is tax deductible. For more information contact Matthew Laurance at matthewL@emilyk.org, or 919-688-3382.
Replay Photos
In case you haven't heard, Sue Harnett, a former Duke women's basketball player, founded a unique company in 2003 called Replay Photos, LLC. Replay, based in Durham, NC, was launched in 2003 with Duke, and in just two years the company has quickly expanded to include 20 schools. Ohio State, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma State, NC State and even North Carolina have signed on with Replay.
The company develops and operates a website enabling fans to purchase stirring athletic and campus photography. Galleries of over 120 photos are available, and all images were taken by professional photograhers. You can purchase the photos in three sizes (9x12, 12x16, 15x20), and premium quality framing and matting options are available. Various combinations of photos, frames and mattings may be constructed by the viewer on the website allowing the product to be seen in its desired, customized form prior to purchase.
The unique part about Replay is that licensing revenue received from the sale of athletic photography benefits school's scholarship endowments or athletic budgets.
For a limited time only, you can purchase a special edition piece capturing a moment from the greatest game in NCAA basketball history, Duke's NCAA double-overtime win over Kentucky in the 1992 East Regional Championship. The perfect gift, "The Shot Heard Around The World" can be viewed and purchased here.
