Coach K has picked Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and Portland Jail Blazers coach Nate McMillan as his assistants for the Olympics team.
D'Antoni was chosen because of his intimate familiarity with the international game; Boeheim because of his career-long intimacy with zones, and Nate McMillan for defense and toughness.
The most striking selection is Boeheim, whose philosophy is one Krzyzewski has always disdained. By that we mean using zones, something Coach K has rarely done. However, the Olympic team will certainly see them, and knowing how to attack them is something Boeheim should be able to contribute.
McMillan has proven to be a superior coach and defense and toughness aside, he has great rapport with players.
