The tiebreaker rules:
When two teams are tied:
- head to head
- Record against the top team, then second, third, etc...
- Coin Flip
When three or more teams are tied:
- Head to head until reduced to two teams
- Record against the top team, then second, third, etc, until reduced to two teams
- Random Drawing
The coin flip and three way tie remain possibilities, depending on
what happens in today's second game. NC State has clinched the second
seed. If Georgia Tech wins, a coin flip is inevitable, since Wake and
Tech will be 1-1 head to head, and they'll have the exact same records
against each conference opponent.
If North Carolina wins, the three way tiebreaker applies. UNC, Tech,
and Wake are all 1-1 against each other, so we go to the second tiebreaker.
UNC, Tech, and Wake would all be 1-1 against Duke. However, UNC is 2-0
against NC State, whereas Tech and Wake are both 0-2. That separates
UNC as the third seed, and Tech and Wake devovle to the two way tiebreaker,
which is the coin flip.
