So here's the weird thing: Top 3 in the ACC? Duke, N.C. State,
Florida State. Say what?
Conf. | Overall | |
Duke | 10-1 | 21-2 |
NC State | 9-2 | 16-5 |
Florida State | 6-6 | 18-8 |
Georgia Tech | 5-5 | 18-6 |
Wake Forest | 5-5 | 15-6 |
North Carolina | 5-6 | 15-7 |
Maryland | 4-6 | 13-8 |
Virginia | 3-9 | 13-10 |
Clemson | 2-9 | 9-13 |
Well, after FSU knocked off
Virginia, they moved to 6-6, and
sole possession of third place...at least for now. If Tech beats Maryland
on Thursday, they'll take third; if Wake beats Duke, they'll actually be tied
for second.
The Duke-Wake game will be passionate, but the stakes are lower than the
Maryland-Tech game: if Maryland loses, they move firmly onto the bubble. It's a
must-win for the Terps.
For State, after knocking off Duke, the trick now is to keep
an even keel while enjoying
what they have lusted for for so long: recognition, respect,
attention. They go to Clemson next, a place they've struggled in the past,
and to be fair, they have suffered from letdowns before.
Frank Dascenzo says that
the conference will get six bids, not seven, and that each team is
vulnerable. Well, yeah! Every team is vulnerable every year! The question
is who hides it best.
