You could argue that out of all the ACC games so far, with the possible
exception of Maryland-FSU the other night, that the
UNC-Tech game in Atlanta is the most critical game of the ACC season so far.
UNC is improving rapidly and playing very, very well. Tech has no real answer
for Sean May. The rest of the matchups, though, should be fun, and it
should be racehorse basketball.

The other Tuesday night game features FSU at N.C. State. That should be
a fun one, too. State is surging, their confidence is rising, and they're
playing really good basketball. No one is even ragging on Sendek much
these days. Florida State is playing well also, though they aren't playing
well enough on the road to win. But they're not playing badly.
They're close.
State is now starting to talk about things like Final Fours. It's a bit
early for that, but we're glad to see that the Pack is thinking big.
That's a nice change.
The Pete Gillen watch continues in Charlottesville, with the Virginia media
beginning to pile on. First up: two bits from the Daily Cavalier, the
first acknowledging pressure, and the second a letter urging
the school to consider replacing Gillen. Here's one strike against
Gillen, at least in our book:
he's decided not to let Majestic Mapp try for a sixth year. Mapp, who
has worked his ass off to get back on the court, deserves the year. It's
no skin off Gillen's nose to give it to him. That's pretty second rate.
Gillen has periodically showed that he feels the pressure. This
is an older article, but still relevant.
Mike DeCourcey has a great article up on the conference in the
waning hours of the round-robin era.
