Lynx Stun Sparks in WNBA Playoffs

The Minnesota Lynx amazingly upset the defending WNBA champion Los
Angeles sparks, beating them for the first time in 17
meetings
. The Lynx had to come back from 21 points down in the second
half, but Katie Smith put on a show in the second half. Former Duke
players Michele Van Gorp and Georgia Schweitzer didn't have much of an
impact, with Gorp playing just five minutes with an assist. Gorp did have
her best season as a pro, averaging 5.6 ppg and 3.5 rpg and playing 17
mpg. She was second on the team in blocks and really established herself
as a dependable bench player. Georgia's playing team unfortunately really
dwindled with the arrival of Teresa Edwards at point, with Schweitz
playing just 7.4 mpg and scoring just 15 points in 16 games. This was the
first-ever playoff appearance for the Lynx, and beating the champs has to
be an amazing feeling. The series is best of three and the last two games
will take place in LA. The Lynx probably don't have a great chance of
winning there, but one never knows.
