Prominent Duke Family Killed in Plane Accident

We're overwhelmingly sad to report of the horrifying plane accident in Kenya that has wiped out 12 members of the Brumley family, who have long ties to Duke University. Among those killed are Dr. George Brumley, Jr. (Duke '56, Duke MD '60), former head of the neonatal and pediatrics divisions at Duke Medical Center; his wife, Jean Brumley (Duke '58), college roommate of Elizabeth Dole; George Brumley III (Fuqua '86), founder of Oak Value Capital mutual fund; his wife, Julia Brumley; their son and daughter, George and Jordan; Elizabeth Love (Duke '84), sister of George Brumley III; her husband, William (Duke '84, Fuqua '92); their daughter, Sarah; Deborah Morrell, another sister of George Brumley III; her husband, Richard; and their son, Alexander.

We knew George Brumley III and had recently spoken with him. Words completely fail in expressing sorrow for the loss of this accomplished and loving family.
