Terps Out; Elite Eight Set

The Sweet 16 is now down to eight, and for the first time in a while, the ACC is not
Maryland went down to Michigan State,
a tough-minded defensive team, 60-58. MSU
hit a baseline layup in the waning seconds, and then Steve Blake missed the final shot of
his career, sending the Terps home.

We're taking bets about how long it takes for Duke to get worked into the mix somehow.
Our guess is that as time wound down, Gary Williams was thinking, "well at
least we went as far as Duke did." With the possible exception of Kentucky,
there is no program in Division I where envy plays so large a part as it does at Maryland.

In the other games, Syracuse outlasted Auburn by one, Texas beat UConn, and Oklahoma
took out a game Butler.
