In an era of harsh partisanship, relatively few figures are respected by both sides, and when you lose one, it's therefore a greater loss than normal. So we're sad to see that Patrick Moynihan has died. He was a guy who really had it all - intellect, grace, humor, and a willingness to break bread with just about anyone politically. It's a great loss for the Republic. We won't see the likes of him again anytime soon.
