FITS followed his flight of fancy over to Chapel Hill last night to
attend what might have been the exciting matchup between the Old North State's two major
state universities. But while the action on the court was tense and exciting, your buzzing
bug of basketball bravado found the Demerol Dome crowd to be especially sedate, even by
the usual comatose Tarheel standards.
From the pathetically slow, dirge-like chant of "Tore.....Heels" (has any
school ever had a more lackluster, funereal, dimwitted chant?) to the look on Coach
D'oh-boy's face (is he trying out for a role on Six Feet Under, or is that only a rumor?),
FITS found the entire ambience to be downright pathetic.
And when a Tarheel player exhorted the crowd to stand and cheer, and as the assembled
multitude ever so slowly dragged its collective self up to stand, ("do we really have
to get up?") FITS thought it most closely resembled a cold war era
Bulgarian crowd forced to stand for yet another depressing May Day parade.
