After a lot of anxiety for Duke fans and recruiting fans in general – and if this doesn’t prove that recruiting is soap operas for men, nothing ever will – Shaun Livingston has decided to bring his talents to Duke.

Livingston, who is universally regarded as a superb ballhandler and brilliant passer, could be the most celebrated recruit to come to Durham since…hmmm…well at least since Danny Ferry, and maybe since Gene Banks. When you think about recruits in the Coach K era, you think Dawkins, then Ferry, Hurley, Hill, and Randolph as the ones who really came in with huge reps and also with huge recruiting battles. Of course, needless to say, reps mean nothing (Chris Burgess), and like everyone else, Livingston will have to prove it on the court.

Livingston and DeMarcus Nelson will enjoy each other, as they should run together like a dream. But we’ve been incredibly excited about the prospect of seeing Livingston and Deng feed off of each other. We remember watching the Celtics in the playoffs the year Walton was healthy, and watching him and Bird just take each other to a higher level. That’s what we’re hoping happens with Deng and Livingston, because their basketball IQs are so very high.

For our Arizona and especially Illinois fans, you have our sympathies. We know this was a tough one to lose.
