The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education has given Duke University a #1 ranking in its survey of how well the nation's top universities attract black students and faculty. The study noted that last year Duke had an entering class that was 11.2% black, up from 7.8% five years earlier. Duke President Nan Keohane was singled out for praise in her efforts to create an even more diverse Duke student body. Obviously, there are still weaknesses such as the need for more interaction between blacks and whites, but it's good to see Duke get high marks on racial issues. Here's a Herald-Sun article on the report.
