The images, after all this time, are still horrifying and fresh: masked face on the balcony, gun at the ready, police scrambling with no idea how to counter the murderous bastards. This was 1972, and it was still such an innocent time that police at the Olympic Village weren't even armed, much less prepared for such an onslaught. Such was the scene at the Munich Olympics as chaos erupted when Palestinian terrorists held the Israeli team hostage.
You'd like to think that that was the product of another time, something we'd never have to think about again, but sadly, we can't allow ourselves to think that way.
