Salvation Army/Coach K Dinner Update

Just a reminder to sign up for the charity dinner for the Salvation Army of Wake County which will be held at the Raleigh Civic Center on Tuesday, September 17th at 7:00pm. In addition to Coach K and members of the Duke team in attendance (Coach K is the featured speaker), Carolina Hurricanes President Jim Cain and members of his Stanley Cup Finalists will be there as well. All of them (including some Durham Bulls and Wool E. Bull himself!) will be available for autographs and conversation at a pre-dinner reception an hour before the dinner. It should be a great time for a great cause. The details follow:

The Salvation Army of Wake County will host the Second Annual Steak & Steak Dinner / Fundraiser with guest speaker, Mike Krzyzewski, Head Coach of the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 7:00pm. The dinner will be held at the Raleigh Convention and Civic Center in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.

There is also a pre-dinner reception at 6:00pm to mingle with local celebrities and members of the Duke basketball team, including Coach K. In fact, Shavlik Randolph has done volunteer work for the Salvation Army in Wake County and works out at times at its Community Center.

The goal will be to raise funds for the Salvation Army’s Community Center, which provides after school care, summer day camp, instructional athletics, and many more services to nearly 1,000 underprivileged youth, ages 5 to 12. The Salvation Army Community Center offers programs that emphasize physical, social and vocational character and leadership development. The Community Center also serves to create an atmosphere that is safe, educational and fun in a Christian environment.

The evening will be filled with entertainment from the children of the Community Center, award presentations to children, area team mascots, local television personalities, sports figures, with the keynote delivered by Mike Krzyzewski.

Mike Krzyzewski, Head Coach for the Duke Blue Devils since 1981, is the all time winningest coach in the history of men’s basketball at Duke University. His accomplishments seem to be endless, from his college basketball career at Army, where he was a three-year letterman, to his induction into the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001. Coach Krzyzewski is also a community and charitable leader. He is involved with many organizations, such as the Children’s Miracle Network, the V Foundation and the Emily Krzyzewski Life Center at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Durham, NC. Jay Bilas, ESPN commentator and former Duke Basketball player, will be the guest EMCEE for the evening.

Tickets can be purchase individually for $125, or by tables of eight (8) for $1,000. Corporate tables are available with sponsorship listed in the program. Ticket purchases are tax deductible, less the cost of the meal. All funds raised will be used to improve upon existing youth programs, as well as implement new programs.
