We were saddened to see that Johnny Unitas died Wednesday. We always admired him because he was a nobody - or rather nobody wanted him. He barely hooked on at all, but when he did, he remade the N.F.L. His career is bookended with the '58 title game, called the greatest game ever played, and the Super Bowl where Joe Namath guaranteed a victory (and made it happen). Unitas was very much old-school, and there's no one really out of that school anymore. He'll be missed.
