The Future And The Past

Our old pal Steve Politi has a column up on Lebron
James and the shoe wars.
Just a generic question, but: what happens if he's
not that good? Oh, we know the talent is there, but what happens if the
attention ruins him? What if everyone lines up and is disappointed?
It happens, you know.
Look at Manuel Forrest
for a story which is alternatively heartbreaking and
inspiring. He's the second guy we've heard of recently who lost desire for
the NBA after his mom died (Clarence Moore was the other), but it's hard not to
feel a lot of empathy for the pain he suffered after his mom died quite
suddenly. Forrest says he wants to write a book, and it sounds like it
would be a tremendous read.
