In
the ACC today, Tech takes on Syracuse, State takes on another dynamo
in
Farleigh-Dickinson, the school where one-time Blue Devil Rick Gomez
transferred
to (he would have been a senior in 1978 if we remember correctly),
Virginia
takes on Rutgers, and Wake hosts St. John's,
after
last year's bitter
loss.
UNC
has a minor
bugaboo,
a secondary violation which involves a recruited walk-on.
In
Winston-Salem, Vytas Danelius' game
is
starting to draw some
attention. The New York Times reports that the teams view the game as prep work (as opposed to a perp walk, the latest fad for Carolina basketball alumni) and the High Point enterprise reminds us that this is a Battle of Unbeatens.
State
is trying to
shake off the Gonzaga
loss,
and what better way to do that than to fatten up
on another cupcake?
Here's
more.
Adrian
McPherson is not going
quietly:
even as he is being investigated for
gambling, he is asking the NCAA to investigate the FSU athletic
department for
rumors of gambling. Free Shoes U to Point Spread
U?
Todd Billet, who
left Rutgers for UVa, is in the awkward position of
playing
for UVa at
Rutgers. The fans in New Jersey are ready for him, with a different greeting than his brother would get.
Not much fun, we'd
say.
The game also has an indirect tie to Duke, as Todd Billet was recruitied to Rutgers by Danny Hurley, Bobby's brother.
Here's some more on the visit of the Yellow Jackets to Syracuse. If Georgia Tech should pull off the victory, it will be their first road win of the season.
Tomorrow the ACC
season begins with a Fox-o-rama special, UNC vs. FSU.&
It's going to be
fun!
