How different are things this year? Well, normally when State loses to UNC,
it messes things up, but now if they lose,
it's nearly a disaster. That's a big change.
Sendek is 1-11 against UNC, and he has coached against Smith, Guthridge, and
Doherty, if memory serves.
Injuries would seem to make a UNC victory unlikely, but we've been around
long enough to be wary of UNC victories seeming unlikely. Young Ilian Evtimov
has some
attachments to Chapel Hill, but not enough to sway his loyalties. Here's
more on Vasco's help.

And while UNC struggles, some
fans think they know who is at fault.
Tonight's other big game is Wake and Maryland, and lately Maryland has owned
Wake. Wake might have enough athleticism to counter Chris
Wilcox, but the
backcourt gives the Deacs fits.
For his part, Gary Williams isn't
very happy with his team's defense. Skip Prosser wants better D, too.
Georgia Tech hasn't won yet, but they pushed Maryland, State, and most
recently UVa pretty hard. They're just about due to win one.
It wasn't last night, though. Elton Brown had
a tremendous game for the 'Hoos. Ed Nelson
is developing a niche.
