In a game which was led by Duke's Carlos Boozer and Chris Duhon, the United States downed Argentina, 95-50, in an exciting game. Here's DBR's Japanese correspondent Daisuke's semifinal report:
Tonight, I went to Saitama to see the semi-final game against Argentina.
Argentina gave USA scare, but led by Carlos and Chris, USA managed to
win.
Carlos was very active from the start. He had three dunks in the 1st
quater, finishing nice assits from Chris and Troy Bell. Chris and Bell
could break down Argentina's defense with penatration. And there was
always Carlos holding positon inside. Carlos was fouled many time, but
he made most of his free throws. In the 4th quater USA seemed to have
safe lead. But Argentina fought back and cut USA lead to one less than
one minuite remaining. Argentina fouled Caron Butler who missed both
free throws. But Carlos grabed huge offensive rebound and fouled. Carlos
calmly made two free throw and put USA up by three. That sealed USA victory.
His defensive intensity was very high. Defending Argentina's big men
very well. He is coming up strong in this tournament.
Chris also had great game. He played almost entire game. I think he was
benched only 2 or 3 minuites. He dished to Carlos and other finisher
time after time. While Carlos led USA in scoring, Chris was clearly the
most valuable player on the court. USA's fast break orchestrated by
Chris is just wonderful to watch.
Dahntay did not play tonight. As I asked Japanese media staff, that
injury is limiting his playing time.
USA will face Croatia in the championship game tomorrow. USA team is
playing much better as a team right now. But Croatia is also very good
team. I expect great game and hope USA win the gold medal!!
