Aside from the Duke-Maryland tussle this weekend, State and UNC
renew their ancient rivalry, and it's likely to be a very intense game.
State got some breathing room when they beat FSU, and beating UNC would revive
them.
As you know, this is Doherty's first visit to Raleigh as a head coach, and
he'll be taking along his shiny new UNC staff. The N&O has
a nice article up about them.
Meanwhile, Wake is nearly
desperate for a good win after such a sensational start - a few weeks ago
who would have thought the Duke game would have been so one sided?. Next up for
the Deacs is a
struggling Cincinnati. Wake is 2-4 in the last six games - we didn't
expect that.
UVa
and Clemson are squaring off today, which could be interesting, actually.
Clemson isn't long on size but is long on guards, so maybe they can handle UVa's
pressing game. Interestingly, other than Duke, UNC, and Maryland, only
Tech has won on the road.
Down in Atlanta, Duke grad and former Maryland coach Lefty "Ah kin
coach" Driesell is
about to win #750. Gee, maybe he can coach.
FSU
continues to struggle, and with the looming five game stretch they're
looking at, they're going to have to improve a lot quickly to win much.
