One of the more interesting developments in the various arguments against
Nike and the shoe industry happened recently at St. John's, where a former
assistant soccer coach sued after he was told to wear Nike togs or take a hike.
He took a hike and filed his suit, claiming that Nike's labor practices violate
Catholic teaching. Now that's an interesting argument. It doesn't hold water
with the court, but it's a hard argument for the Church to ignore.
Honestly our opinion on the Nike/labor issue swings around a lot, but James
Keady has really put Catholic education on the spot in a really interesting way.
