6-10 Michael Thompson of Illinois, a rising star, is subject of a
recruiting battle (already) between Duke and UNC. If either of the two
schools lands Thompson early, of course, the landscape will likely change around
Shavlik Randolph, Raleigh's promising big man. But as usual, it's too
early to tell much. Michael seems like a smart kid, and his brother, who is with
the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern, is providing guidance
and counsel. Best of luck to Michael in his decision. We'll look forward
to seeing his reaction to his Durham trip, and how he likes Cameron for the
