The human genome, it will be announced shortly,
has been totally mapped. This is first and foremost one of the scientific
accomplishments of the ages, which is why we mention it. It's hard to read
something like this and not pay attention.
Afterwards, of course, is what we do with it, and given human nature, the
temptations to misuse it will be mighty. However, the potential to do good
is enormous. Any number of genetic diseases may be cured. For those
with genetic predispositions to diabetes, cancer, MS, vision problems, on and on
and on, this is a time of enormous hope.
Anyway, as we said, it's hard to read of such an enormous accomplishment
without passing it on. This rates with any scientific accomplishment in history.
