An interesting article in the Charlotte paper as UNC is considering joining
the Workers Rights
Consortium, which would put
their contract with Nike in question, as Nike might choose to withdraw, as
they did when they disagreed with Michigan recently.
UNC, however, according to - and isn't this a great name - director of auxiliary services Rut Tuft is ok
with Nike now, though that could change as things develop. However, UNC wants
Nike to have a voice in the WRC, which probably isn't going to happen.
For anyone who is interested, the New Republic has some interesting comments
on some related/parallel issues in their current issue, mostly dealing with the
emergence of what's inevitably being called the New Left, and the recent
protests about globalization and so forth.
