DeShawn Stevenson, whose near-miraculous SAT score was invalidated has
apparently thrown in the towel and
jumped to the NBA against his parents wishes.
It's astonishing, really, how naive some of these kids are. A couple of weeks
ago, DeShawn was a scared little boy, crying on the phone to friends, unsure
what he should do. Now he's going to, if he's lucky, end up on the end of an NBA
bench for the near future. If he's very lucky, and hardworking, he might win
some time, but he's not even certain to be a first round draft pick at this
point. He's likely to learn some painful lessons soon, but it's his life, and
it's his right to make mistakes.
