The president of the AAU insists
his organization is getting a bum rap, and he in some ways makes a good
argument. His suggestion, though, that the NCAA let the AAU manage all
summer basketball will almost certainly be rejected out of hand. Most
people have forgotten that the AAU and the NCAA used to be rivals, and that the
AAU has had some level of power before. At one point, for instance, the Olympic
team was required to hold spots for AAU players.
